Parish Council Elections - Thursday 3 May 2018

Elections for St Mary Bourne Parish Council are scheduled to take place on Thursday 3 May 2018.  The parish incorporates the villages of St Mary Bourne and Stoke and the hamlets of Binley, Egbury, Wadwick and The Wykes.

The notice of election will be published on 27 March 2018, at which point nominations will be open.  The closing date for nominations will be 6 April 2018 at 4:00pm.  Nomination forms can be obtained from the Returning Officer at BDBC or accessed here.

The Parish Council is the first tier, and most local form, of government.  The council provides some services directly, such as the Recreation Ground, and also acts as advocate for the local community with all other levels of government and with other agencies and businesses to make sure that our community is well served.

It is important to our parish that we have elected members of our own community working for us on areas as diverse as playgrounds and planning, flooding and footpaths, highways and heritage sites.  All issues are considered on a parish wide basis.  However the current parish council consists mainly of councillors who live within a short distance from the Village Centre.  It would be good therefore, to also have candidates standing from Stoke and the hamlets.

Standing as a parish councillor requires a minimum commitment of attending monthly Full Council meetings (usually the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm), although you may choose to become involved in one of the committees or working groups according to your interests and/or skills.  You will not be paid.

There are criteria for who can stand, which are listed on the link above.  You do not need to belong to a political party.
